I am not a traveler expert, I just want to share with you some of the tips I’ve learnt on my trips, all of them counted making my memories unforgettable. At the end experiences are worthy and everything, the more you travel the most you learn.

No soy experta en viajes, pero quiero compartir contigo algunos trucos que hacen mis viajes más interesantes e inolvidables, al final ya sabéis: la experiencia no se improvisa! Cuanto más viajéis más aprenderéis

1. If getting tax free make sure you ask for the right forms, otherwise you won’t be able to get any refund just with the purchase ticket.

Si vais a pedir que os hagan tax free, aseguraros que os dan la documentación correcta, no sólo el ticket.

2. Important to point out, to get the tax free refund you have to be a non resident in the country you are visiting 

Recordar que sólo os lo aplicarán si sois no residentes en el país que estáis visitando.

3. Make sure all purchased merchandise is with you at the time you are claiming your money and getting the stamp, don’t check the luggages and go to the tax free point, if they ask you to show some merchandise and you don’t have it, you won’t get the stamp and neither the refund. I saw once a gentleman in front of me yelling out to the officer because he checked the luggages before, as a result he lost more than €2.000 refund.

Hablando de devolución de impuestos, aseguraros que tenéis toda la mercancía comprada con vosotros, no se os ocurra pasar  una vez las hayáis registrado, si el oficial os pregunta por algún artículo comprado y no lo tenéis, podrá negarse a sellar los documentos y devolver euro alguno. No olvidaré en la vida la cara y la voz de un señor que había registrado las maletas y al llegar al oficial, este le preguntó por varios artículos y al no tenerlos perdió más de €2.000 que no le fueron devueltos.

4. In some shopping areas they have special offices that refund the money, just needing to make a line at the airport to get the official stamp, Global Blue, Planet, Tax Free are the most recognizable companies, those places charge a very little commission.

En algunas áreas de compras hay localizaciones especiales que devuelven el dinero, de forma que al llegar al aeropuerto solo necesitareis el sello de oficial, de lo contrario el dinero devuelto será cargado en la tarjeta. Algunas de las compañías más conocidas: Global Blue, Planet, Tax Free.

5. Depending on the airport sometimes they won’t stamp the forms any time sooner than 4 hours before departing time, to take into account if you are doing a stopover.

Depende el aeropuerto de salida en algunos no sellan ni devuelven importe alguno antes de las 4 horas previas al vuelo! A tener en cuenta si hacéis escala.

6. About the minimum amount of money to ask for Tax Free, after spending €120 up to €155.

El importe mínimo para reclamar el Tax Free depende de la ciudad y tienda, pero es más o menos a partir de los 120 euros y en algunos no mínimo a 155 euros gastados.

7. If the refund is bigger than €800 in one of the purchases the refund and the stamp will be claim at the airport, a custom officer is the qualify person for that.

Si la cantidad a devolver es superior a €800 proveniente de un solo establecimiento, tendréis que acudir a un oficial de aduanas para sellar el documento y de seguro que os pedirán el/los artículo/s comprados.

8. Very important!!! I don’t want this happening to you…keep with you a €2 coin, specially at the airport if you need to get a cart for your luggages! I was so lucky a gentleman gave me 2 euros, I ask at least 4 people to change money, and desperate the gentleman offer to pay for the trolley, God bless him and his family, no way to walk out the custom with 3 luggages.

Para que no os pase como a mi… en medio de mi generosidad me puse a gastar y/o regalar mis monedas, al llegar a Milán a tomar mi siguiente vuelo de vuelta a NY  necesitaba un carrito para mis maletas, no encontré máquina de cambio y mucho menos a nadie que me cambiara, hasta que llegó el señor más majo del mundo y me dio los €2 que necesitaba! Moraleja: tener 2 euros siempre a mano! 

9. Now let’s talk about dress code… Specially shoes… if walking around a rocky and old city my recommendation is being practical, if you are like me, and want beautiful fashion editorials, pack your beautiful shoes on a bag and wear them just for the picture… I broke a Brian Atwood pair of boots in Florence after dinner and the joke/repair cost me €200! But they were worthy…

Hablemos de lo que más me gusta… la ropa…los zapatos…Si vais a caminar por algún lugar de piedras y calles peligrosas, poneros calzado práctico, si queréis pisados ideales con calzado imposible meterlo en una bolsa y os lo ponéis para la causa. Me cargué unas botas nuevas de Brian Atwood bajando de un taxi en Florencia, se me quitaron las ganas para siempre de caminar con estilo en calles antiguas, la reparación me costó 200 euros! Una broma muy cara.

10. Don’t overpack! Lol, my hubby must be reading this and saying: come on Angie, you are queen B of overpacking...we always find beautiful things to buy, as a result 50% of what you bring will return home unworn.

No empaquéis más de lo necesario… llegados a este punto mi marido estará con ojos como platos leyendo este apartado… soy la reina del sobrepeso…la realidad es que cuando vas a Europa o cualquier otro sitio lleno de moda, solo usarás el 50% de lo que has empacado, el resto volverá a casa en la maleta, algo más arrugado, pero sin usar 😜.

11. About pocketbooks/handbags…if a backpack will be your bestie in Disney, when in a city I highly recommend a crossbody style, is comfortable and you will feel safer. 

Hablemos de bolsos…si vais a Disney, vuestro mejor amigo será la mochila, si vais a caminar hasta el cansancio por alguna ciudad, os recomiendo un bolso cruzado/bandolera, os sentiréis más seguros y cómodos al andar.

12. Last but not least…my address book in Florence and Madrid on this trip! The more I visit these two cities, the more I discover such a nice places to hang out 😋

Lo último pero no menos importante: mi cuaderno de direcciones en Florencia y en MADRID en este viaje, la verdad que cuanto más las visito más lugares conozco.

Florence/Florencia:

Portrait Hotel, is our favorite hotel ever, waking up in the morning and seeing the Ponte Vecchio is priceless.

Siempre nos quedamos en el hotel Portrait, las mejores vistas del Ponte Vecchio.

Restaurants:

La Bottega del Buon Café, Trattoria Gargani, Pandemonio Restaurant, Trattoria Cammillo (don’t miss out the artichoke omelette/tenéis que probar la tortilla de alcachofa).

Madrid:

La Maquina, Ten con Ten, Ultramarinos Quintin, Lux, Restaurante La Bola (Best Cocido Madrileño ever), and my favorite Chinese in Madrid/y mi restaurante Chino favorito en el hotel Palace: Asia Gallery at Palace Hotel…
